That's not one of the active release fingers, but rather one of the "bottoming out" fingers, I believe. Did you have pedal feel such that it seemed you were bottoming out prematurely and pressing on those support fingers?

looks like a travel stop.
your SAC mechanisim could have not been adjusted cuasing too much actuation. all speculation here since i dont know how it was installed.
