But, I talked to one of my best friends, who is the Audi specialist at our local dealer, and he told me he just got done having a meeting with the regional Audi sales reps (I was up at the dealership when the reps were there, and one of them drives a silver S4 <grin&gt. They told him the new S4 will be introduced as a 2004 model, and will (and I quote) "for sure have a 4.2 litre V8". He also made mention that it would be a tuned version of the current 4.2 in the A8. He did not comment on the horsepower.

I know there have been tons of rumors spreading about what the new engine will be. I take this as a very credible source.

Some other items the rep mentioned...

* New A8 will be introduced next year and will have some sort of thumb-print starting mechanism.

* No one, with the exception of a handful of people, have seen the new A8 body style. The rep said the interior will be very much like the current Avantissimo that's making the rounds, but the outside remains a secret.

* The new A4 Cabriolet will be introduced this Spring (sort of old news).

* The A3 will definetely be brought over to the States.

Again, I know there has been a ton of speculation about the new S4. This is the most reliable source of info I have (he and I have been friends for ten years).
