Default Mine blew apart. Loss of boost and loss of vacuum assist. Very bad.

Mine looked like this:

Definitely replace it.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/2691047.phtml">https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/2691047.phtml</a></li></ul>

Default I thought the spider hose is the one with 5 inlets under the one in the pic.

The one in the pic is the some one that was leaking on my car. When searching for parts it seemed like when searching for "spider hose" or "breather hose" you always get a hose with 5 inlets. I haven't quite figured out the part number for the one pictured which only has 3 inlets but I epoxied mine as well until I can figure out the replacement.

Default Yeah, I don't know the exact name of it.

It was hard for my local dealer to find the part when I said "vacuum" are since one line goes to the vacuum res. Then I said another line goes to the boosted intake manifold. Then he finally found it. P/N on my broken one is KYS 078-133-701. Not sure on the second "3" in "133." I think this P/N was then superseded by something else since my new one looks slightly different. Get a new one. A few people have lost their brake assist at high speeds after a lot of WOT!

Default Yeah, they suck. I epoxied the crap out of the center collector and used heater hose for

all of the runs. I feel much better about it now. What a crappy design with all that under hood heat.

Default Isn't the line in the pic that blew apart the brake booster vacuum line and not

the "spider hose", which I thought was the name for the PCV crankcase breather hose? The breather hose has three lines coming out of the valve covers and crankcase, into a distributor piece, and two lines coming out, one to the intake mani and another to the valve on the Y-pipe. There's also a short line to the N75 directly from one of the valve cover exits. On pre-2001.5 models I think the hose to the intake manifold goes to the F hose and into the intake manifold. On post 2001.5, it goes into the back of the intake manifold.

That's what I've been calling the spider hose, at least. Dealers have a blank stare when you say "spider hose" by the way.

Default PCV breather hose near atmosphere pressure, but will make a mess eventually.

Check out the link below for a part number discussion.

If the spider hose you're talking about is the five hose monster, with a tiny sixth hose to the N75, then it should be near atmosphere pressure most of the time. A crack means there's some loss of metered air volume (and maybe the N75 won't work quite right?) Plus, I think the oily gases will escape and make a mess of the engine bay over time.

Upgraded replacements with heat shielding available at dealer and others.

It's a minor PITA to get the thing out and easier to reach if you take out the Y-pipe first.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/2720172.phtml">Click me for part numbers</a></li></ul>

Default The piece I have has one line going to the brake booster, one line going to the manifold,

and one line going to the y-pipe accordian. Inside the T, are two one-way valves. So the brake booster will get vacuum under WOT since there is vacuum in the Y-pipe and then it will get vacuum with the throttle closed since there is vacuum in the manifold.

Default I have Just been Through this Whole Thing.....What I have found out...

1) Audi calls the spider hose a hose.

For the 2000 S4: Hose P/N 078 103 235B List $120.98

2)There is an additional seperate PCV valve not included with the spider hose that connects to the F hose on the 2000 S4 models. Audi calls it a bleeder:

Bleeder P/N 035 103 245A List Price $14.87

3) The spider hose for the 2001 is:

Hose P/N 078 103 235R List Price $107.58

4) The PCV valve is included with the spider hose on the 2001 S4 models. It can however be replaced separately. Audi calls it a bleeder:

Bleeder P/N 078 103 245B List price $14.87
