I've been seeing a lot of posts where certain springs are mentioned to match well with certain shocks. How does one determine whether a spring matches well with a certain shock? Tuners are saying go this route because spring-x matches well with shock-y. How does one determine this? Suspension dyno?
Here's my dilemma: I currently have Intrax springs and was looking forward to installing Koni sports. Now that Bilsteins have come out with S4 specific shocks, I've been having double thoughts, specially after reading RAUDIS4s testing with stock dampers and the Konis (part of the Intrax Motorola kit).
Should I just go for the Bilsteins? Another thing that sucks about the Konis is that I need to spend another $100 for the old style perches. Not sure if that's needed with the Bilsteins. Your thoughts? Thanks.

as long as the stock ones? If not, why do they go so quickly. Is it because of the weight of the S4?
It would suck to have to replace suspension after 2 or 3 years of getting them.

I was also involved with the Koni revalve problem that RaudiS4 had. It was the fault of an inexperienced tuner and not with the Konis. Both RaudiS4 and I sent our stuff to Lee Grimes @ KoniNA and he fixed our problem with flying colors. So lesson learned, send 'em to a tuner that has prior experience. The Koni revalve makes them compatible with most aftermarket springs that are available today. They are firm and taught.
Can't help you on the spring perch difference but I can tell you I am running early S4 Konis and Vortrag springs with the early perches on my '01. The ride height is about 1" lower as advertised. Maybe there are Koni bodies available that will fit the new '01 springs. Then you wouldn't need to change the perches.
One nice thing is the Konis can be made to be externally adjustable for rebound while on the car. Its a mod well worth it if you like to tinker with handling. They can even be made double adjustable if you want.
Hope this helps some. Good luck.
