How loud of a noise? Squeek, or screaching sound? Most every car makes a high pitched soft of metalic hum when your at full lock. From your 20k GM car to you 120k MB car. If it seems much louder than normal, or sounds differant than normal. Then start to be concerned.

Determine if the sound is comming from the belt, or comming from the pump, or comming from the rack. Have some one turn the rack while you listen for the source.

its a high pitch squeak and its in the middle of the front part of the car..the sound reminds me of bad breaks if anything.

Then yes it is the P/S Pump. Unless your having issues other than the squeek at full lock I would not worry about it. If its alot louder than normal and/or your getting worried about it failing. Then maybe I would consitter replacing it with the your next timeing belt change. Some one else would know better than me, I think the front bumper needs to get removed and radiator needs to be swung out to complete that job.

Other than if its getting louder or worse, the sound your describing sounds pretty normal to me.
