I have a few questions to what is really necessary for me to purchase in order to effectively run my K04's
1. I noticed that AWE doesn't use a different MAF just a different MAF housing, what's up with that?
2. I noticed that not all tuners use the fuel pump or pressure regulator. Any thoughts on why?
3. I just don't want to buy stuff i don't need. just because it has RS4 in front of it, do i necessarily need it?
a.. RS4 Airbox
b.. RS4 Mass Air flow meter
c.. RS4 Upper Y Pipe
d.. RS4 Y pipe connector hoses
e.. RS4 fuel injectors (set of 6)
f.. RS4 fuel injector seals (set of 6)
g.. Custom brass fuel injector adapters (set of 6)
h.. RS4 fuel pump
i.. RS4 fuel pressure regulator
j.. All misc. hardware, etc...
k.. Custom tuned ECU software upgrade

1. by using a larger maf housing the dynamics of the air flowing through the maf housing are changed allowing awe to use the stock sensor
2. using a fuel pump or not depends upon the tuners approach to tuning the car for additional fuel. With a larger injector you may not need more fuel pressure for example. You can get the numbers and do the research yourself or trust a tuner.
3. Rs4 y pipe won't hurt...all the other stuff in there has to do with your 2nd question.

you can tell that you don't need a load of RS4 OEM parts. What's happening now is the software dictates what components you use (to a certain extent). AWE's GIAC software caters to their MAF & injectors. Same with APR, it's tuned for the RS4 OEM injectors, MAF & RS4 airbox.
If you really wanted to, you could mix & match what you wanted, but the software has to recognize it somehow for them to be used optimally. The software is not there yet, so we lie in waiting...

and if this was your car how would your finish up stage three in terms of tuner and parts
thanks again for your help

at this time I wouldn't buy any of the kits out there -mainly- because they are unproven. I'd feel most comfortable waiting for one of the fueling kits to mature/prove itself or at least have some good vag data posted by an owner.
In the meantime I'd either throw on a 5 bar fuel pressure regulator and keep a close eye on everything or possibly run on the stock ecu (prob the safest but of course the least fun)
I'm on stock turbos

I really wanted to pick up a K04 kit this summer, but seeing as they are mostly backordered and taking a while to be proven, I'm planning on waiting till atleast '03 to get one. Want to buy one after they've proven themselves a bit, not on tid bits of people who have most of the kit in place. Have a problem with spending $6k on parts that few people have had a chance to thrash in everyday life.
