I've run ~27psi sustained to redline on my car on pump gas and I'm not entirely happy with the knock and subsequent timing loss, but it's doable.
We're getting to the point of diminishing returns even with robust intercooling, fueling and such due to cylinder pressures. I currently run ~24psi on the street, every day, and it works well. I don't forsee any problem with 26#+ with a slightly richer mixture on the GT kits. I'd call it quits at around 28.5psi: I noted a decent jump in KV activity at this level that couldn't be quelled no matter how much fuel was added. SO, we're in a situation in which the normal balancing act between timing and boost becomes making a choice between the two just to keep the thing together.
We definitely need lower compression to take it to "the next level", nevertheless I'm certain we can produce more power out of the stock longblock using a few tricks to relieve the pressure. (Think valvetrain

The "builder" said it was safe from exploding because of my added race cams which relieve compression to a point (added duration.etc). Is this something we could explore or is it easier to just switch pistons? I'd love to be able to run maybe 30 lbs of boost if possible and safe.

I'm moving that engine into my garage this weekend. I'll try to tear it down before I'm on a plane Sunday... and I'll ship the bumpies out when I get back :P
I may have time in late February/early March :P
