STFA...are non-matching badges on a 2001.5 common or (more)
should i suspect that one was replaced?
Here is the story: I just bought a 2001.0 S4 and sold my A4 to my dad. A week and a half later, he wants an S4.
I went and looked at a Black "2001" at a local dealership for him (he is out of town).
It has no F-Hose, new badge on the trunk, new badge on the tach (not speedo), but an OLD badge on the front grill. So I believe it is a 2001.5.
Not only had nobody else caught this, nobody seemed to care. The sales guy said 'Hans and Frans' were pulling parts from a different box'.
Is that something that happened? using mis-matched badges?
-or- do you guys think that either the trunk or grill badge was replaced for some reason (such as an accident). It is a CPO, so it passed the Carfax report.
I think im gonna ask them to replace the grill badge...otherwise it will bother me every time i see the car.

not as much as the parts on the car...
...and there are some documented cases of truly mixed badging from the factory (cluster not matching front/rear).
The easiest is ECU code:
A - 2000 (f-hose, no esp, old oil lines/turbos, old shifter style, soft sychro's, bosch MAF, old badges, aluminum uprights, no aluminum mirrors w/ sport package)
I think the "A"s ran till about 6/00 or so?
H - 2001 (f-hose, esp, old oil lines/turbos, old shifter style, hitachi MAF, old badges, steel uprights, aluminum mirrors w/ sport package)
I think the "H"s ran till about 10/00 or so?
M - 2001.5+ (no f-hose, esp, updated lines/turbos, new shifter, hitachi MAF, new badges, steel uprights, aluminum mirrors w/ sport package)

Re: build date/esp
mao4r: all 2001s have ESP
3scanner: ill check the build date when i take the A4 to the dealership for a trade-in appraisal today.
I am 99% sure it is a true 2001.5...but the inconsistent badges worried me slightly.
Thanks for the quick replies guys!
