Default STFA- replacing oil temp sensor- any hints/question- tia

Just got an oil change within last 1,000 miles and oil temp sensor display came on.

- Would u just wait until next oil change to replace?

- If I replaced it now, I could just put a quart or so of oil back in for the oil that i'd lose when i took the old sensor out? (sorry for dumb question - never done this before)

thanks for any input, as a wrenching noob this forum has already helped me come so far since i started doing some things myself

Default my guess is you're talking about the oil level sensor.

oil *temp* sensor is behind the oil cooler, and is just a single wire from down there routing up and around near the front of the driver side valve cover on top of the engine.

oil level sensor is the one that you install in the bottom of the oil pan.

buy the sensor, wait til your oil change, and replace. my guess is, if you try to replace the sensor with the pan full of oil, you'll make a huge mess and more than likely spill oil in the electrical connector area. bad times.

Default Rakta said it right. Or if you want to do it earlier, just make sure your drain pan is super clean

drain it out first then replace.

Default yeah, you can drain and just reuse the oil.

Detroit and I are gonna keep agreeing with each other and adding a little tidbit each time.

No, the oil temp gauge doesn't work - it's a 2001.5

Default I (and a few others) got a Febi sensor for a replacement from ECS and it would not work...

we needed to get the direct stock replacement which was Hela. Not sure if this is only for MY2000, but just wanted to put that out there for ya.
