StopTech clunk

This morning, while driving to work I noticed a metallic "clunk" when the brake pedal was first applied. It was coming from the front passenger side wheel well. This could be felt as well as heard.
A quick visual inspection didn't reveal anything amiss. This sound only occured at the initial depression of the brake pedal and didn't reoccur. At one point I thought I could hear a much fainter version of the same sound without the brakes applied happening about 4/sec. This lasted about 3 seconds and went away.
I thought maybe something was loose, but when I got off the freeway and braked again, it didn't happen and hasn't happened since.
Any thoughts on what this was? Something stuck in the caliper that I couldn't see and is now dislodged itself?

I was getting a clunking from my APR brakes and someone told me to bend the tabs on the retainer to put more pressure on pad, that the pad was making the noise. I did this and it's now quiet. Good luck.

Something about the pads wearing down and the backing plate hitting the rotor hats? ST redesigned the caliper bracket to prevent this. Just something to look at, if you haven't checked it already.

---> forwards again, your brake hat/rotor bolts may be developing some slack.

This is also the front passenger side brake, Stoptech 332mm rotors. And my brakes squeal like made normally.
It never made a noise when cold - I had to warm up the brakes by driving around a bit.
When driving slow (~5-15mph) you could brake firmly and quickly and release quickly and hear the clunking noise on release, and sometimes when first applied. It made me think it was a suspension problem at first, until I figured out the next part.
When driving slowly (~5-10mph) if you barely applied the brakes and then released them there would be a periodic "clunk" that had a frequency related to the rotational speed of the wheel. If you lightly apply the brakes the noise stops while braking.
I had Dynospot look at it and Dick said it looked like there was a lot of pad material on the rotor and it was knocking on the pads. After bedding down the pad/rotors the clunk is gone.
Weird.
