Syncros-How do you tell if they are going bad? Especially 2nd gear?

Just had mine replaced recently.....
The way that I could tell is that while putting it in reverse you can hear the gears just grinding a little. Also, when it "clunks" into second something is wrong. Mainly the thing to look out for is if second just doesn't slip into gear smoothly...like the rest of the gears. For some reason I had this same issue with my A4...I guess Audi just doesn't like smooth 2nd gear shifts...

The way to tell is.....................................
If you accelerating fast and try to shift into 2nd over 4500 rpm and your 2nd grinds and won't let you in gear
and
If you are downshifting into 2nd while at high rpm and you grind and can't get into gear
and
If you are downshifting into 2nd while at high rpm and you grind and can't get into gear
