There have been some good post re shift points, do a search. Generally, you want to shift close to redline 1-2 and 2-3. You should need to shift into 4th somewhere just before the finish line. The 3-4 shift should come a bit earlier than redline.
If you pay attention, after a few runs you'll be able to tell when you've gotten the most out of a gear... Have fun!

Ditto on the ESP off...
I hooked up an EDL defeat on my 2000. You can do a search for all the other tricks I do.
Launch at 3500ish
Shift at close to redline, since you're on K04's, in all gears.
You should do fine.
