If you're going to do this, you have to tell the cop you're recording him
A guy was arrested for illegal wiretapping for doing something similar in Massachusetts. Got pulled over, recorded it on tape, went to court to show he was harassed (and he was, big time) and the prosecutor charged him with wiretapping. He was convicted too.
Be careful; it's a great idea, but you can't just go around recording people without their knowledge, even cops or other publicly accountable figures. Unless you're a reporter

9/11 has got nothing to do with this except...
it gave many police unions the ability to get a better pay contract from the city that they work in. most street cops are not the good cops... you are right.

you did a good thing by not putting up with him. hopefully this will stop him from giving others a hard time in the future. but next time... dont put your hands in your pockets... a buddy of mine got battoned in the head for that once.

I think you should know as well as anyone how cops get out of hand. Lookin at how the officer
backed down the way he did (if we have an accurate description) it is very likely that the officer was abusing his power.
Adding it up, scanner, car, faking pumping gas, etc... it looks like some of the stories I've heard FROM COPS about harrassing young guys with fast cars.
