Quicksilver, I don't mean to blow your well formulated theory out of the water but, unfortunately, we can't go around leaving people mis-informed.

Above is a video of a Euro M3 racing an NSX type Zero. The M3 does 13.6. The driver really botched up the launch, though, & I will go about proving that that is in fact a bad time for a Euro M3. Also, note that the M3 is doing 253 km/h (158 mph) at the end of the lap.

Next up is the self-same NSX against a Porsche 911 Carrera 4S (4 wheel drive) which does 13.8. Note: the same drivers on the same track in the same conditions. Now either these guys can't drive or the conditions were not ideal but it was the same for all cars. Note the Porsche does 234 km/h (146 mph) over the same distance.

Then the Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec does 13.2 & 240 km/h (150 mph) & the Toyota Supra RZ does 14.0 & 236 km/h (148 mph).

The Ferrari F355 does 13.0 & 259 km/h (161 mph). Now you can see that the times are a bit slow. Anyway, the M3 reaches the 2nd highest speed over the distance, just 3mph down from the Ferrari. I know for a fact that at around that speed the M3's governor cuts in so maybe the M3 could have gone quicker. Note the other fast cars hadn't reached their governed speeds yet over the short distance.

My point is that all the 1/4 mile times are off by about .3 second if you compare the other fast cars to results from other magazines. This would indicate that the M3 would do 13.3 in good conditions with a good driver.

BTW the Porsche is 4WD which means that it would be able to launch at a higher rpm with less wheelspin & therefore reach 20 mph before the M3. The 996 C4 will reach 100 mph quicker than an M3. That doesn't necessarily mean that it will be quicker to the 1/4 mile (as you can see it isn't). You are confusing time to speed & time to distance, which do not always correlate.

I don't think that you can compare times done on different strips. The surface, conditions, elevation, temperature, humidity, gradient & wind can all conspire to produce vastlt different times. Tuners for Audi (MTM) all claim fantastic times (as do BMW & Subaru tuners) but when the time comes to performing, the 340hp chipped S4's always lag at least half a second behind the stock Euro M3's. I'm not doubting that they can do low 13's at your strips, but at mine the fastest I've ever seen in 13.7. There was one that had changed his turbos to bigger ones & he was pretty quick. I think he did a low 12.

Please feel free to dispute anything but bear in mind that my objective was to clear up the misconception concerning the Euro M3's 1/4 mile time.<p><IMG SRC=http://www.geocities.com/eurom3/Sig.jpg>

It seems impossible to me that those cars could get to those speeds and be running those times. A supercomp dragster runs at 8.40 et at around 140 mph. My old camaro did >13's at 124 mph. A car running a "normal" 13 second pass should be between 100-110 mph, or else something is seriously amiss.
