I had a 1999.00 A4 1.8T Quattro
Did a ton of mods., including the 2-piece xenon lights (2 piece being the turn signal and the headlight housing).....and it was a HUGE improvement over the stock ones....(non-xenon)
Got a 2000 S4 and I think that the stock xenons are not even close in terms of lighting performance.....I got so babied by the Euro A4 lights....I need to do something.....
Those who have the Euro-spec housings, can you guys tell me what your thoughts are on getting the Euro-spec housings (lighting performance vs, stock ones) and how hard it was to make the actual swap?
How long did it take?
Any warnings on the actual swap?
Thanks to all that read....
Best regards,
Patrick

do the clear corner mod on the stock headlights
if the amber corner bothers you, and get a set
of HID driving fog lights instead. euros are
stupid money imho, considering all you get are
stupid housings. they improve range at the
expense of side lihting. also, the sharp cutoff
leaves some roadsigns dark, because they don't
allow much light to scatter, as the us projectors
do. i think you'll be a lot happier spending
~$600 on hid driving fog lights instead, mounted
in the center of the bumper, which will also
allow you to remove the useless stock fogs which
might as well have been built by a 5 yr old
considering how well they work.
that is all.
oh, and i'm specifying "driving" HID fogs because
that implies they will concentrate on range, and
not on scattering light in a wide angle. but
don't get pencil beam. oh, and the other plus
side is that it'll look sick with 4 hid's at night.

fitting leveling motors into new housing could be tricky.
As far as comparing light output - it's hard to tell unless you put two cars next to each other.
Otherwise - by the time you are done with Euro install and adjustment - you don't really remember what the stock ones were like.
That's my experience

I have my Euros properly aimed and the light pattern is too concentrated in the middle. Some road signs are not illuminated until I get rather close to them.
Additionally, the beam pattern slopes upward on the oncoming-traffic side, whereas the US-spec housings are horizontal

i'd still agree with the first part of what
he said. euros concentrate so much for distance,
that you lose a lot of light on the sides. in
addition, the beam pattern being so sharp means
less light scattering onto roadsigns that are
high up, therefore less visable when no other
cars are around to light em up for you.
i think auxilary hid driving lights are a better
deal -- and the sad part is that a set of
aux hid driving lights with bulbs, ballasts and the
housing will only cost about $100 or so more than
euro housings.
