is there an easier way to tap into the ignition wire other than finding it in the cluster of 5 red

VAG connection has an ignition wire. Black/blue wire IIRC.

Default Yup. Works well in the several turbo timers I've installed that way.

Note the gauge of wiring is like 18 or something like that so very thin.

Default ignition as in, supply 12v to that wire and the engine will keep running when you turn the car off

and remove the key?

Yes. Same effect as if you tapped the ignition wire in the steering column.

Default Hmm, is there 12v available on another connector there? could be handy in the winter.

make a little plug for it with the right pins jumped.

TIme to go look at wiring diagrams..

Yes there is also a constant 12v power source. Red/black wire, IIRC.
