Default Some Purolator air filters have "Made in Germany" stamped on them.

I'm sure they outsource some of their filter manufacturing.

And that stamp automatically makes them good?

Default You're absolutely right. Just pointing out that their filters ARE likely outsourced.

Since Mann and Mahle are the big German air filter manufacturers it is likely outsourced to them. Which would make them as good as any OEM filter.

Default The Wix air filters used to be sourced from Germany - don't think they were actual Mann products,

but they seemed decent. I know that the Purolator ones you get currently seem better than the older style but the problem is that they don't have the hot glue support "stripes" and they can deform easily if they get damp.

The STP air filters may be the same source for less $ than Purolator based upon me checking the box but haven't used one of those. (I got some Mann filters from carmadillo.com for like $12 each, so I stocked up and am set for quite a while...).

Default BTW, I did use the Wix one in my S4 prior to getting the Mann ones off the web. Also ran the new

style Purolator in my 2.8L 30V B5 Passat (but I put some homebrew support stripes on the filter element to stiffen it up).
