Is there a reason none of the boost guages take advantage of the OEM pressure sensor?

I was reading through that 2.7T manual that was posted a few weeks ago, and I noticed they had an entire "sensors" section. I hopped in there and they've got a pressure sensor just on top of the TBB... and it already sends an electrical signal directly proportional to the pressure from 0->5v with 2.5 being approximately 1 ATM.
What gives... wouldn't it make boost guages a lot cheaper if they just tapped into this?
I mean heck a digital one should be cake when the signals already provided and calibrated. Given that boost fluctuates so often, I'm willing to bet it could even be done inductively.
Thoughts?
