Yeah it could be that also. The reason I say that is because my wifes TDI had the same noise at -
start up, mind you it is a 5MT. She had a 17964 code and CEL light come on after the car idled for about 20 sec. She had her turbo replaced yesterday, luckily under warranty. I know they are two different cars, but have almost the identical symptoms. Does your car feel like it lost all boost? Like it's running at 4-5psi?
