I've done a bunch of research into this back when I had my 96, which had the old style steering wheel (which is still my favorite) and was very-very hard to find a spare of. With our cars, any 3-spoke wheel from 98 on will work and they are all the same. However after 2001 in europe and after 2002 in the US the airbag design changed and that's why the RS4 had the newer style bag.
