Those who have been to Buttonwillow, do they require a helmet?

I have a Bieffe, and Bell also makes good ones. Those are the only brands I've really heard anything about (haven't been doing this very long). The most important thing is to be sure it fits properly. The salesperson should be able to help you out with that.
Have fun at the event and try to learn. It's a total blast.

Depends on your head. My noggin's big, so Simpson fits better. Bell is for smaller egg shaped heads (j/k). Bieffe also tends to run smaller.
Try them on. Make sure they fit snugly and then order from places like Racerwholesale.com.

went with full face. had this fear of smackin' something with my face in an accident. Plus the wife wouldnt let me do track events without a full face!!! : ) Went with the Bell M2(??) cause I have to wear glasses and this model had the wider eye port.

And in the 103 degree Buttonwillow/Thunderhill heat, a full face is no picnic. Neither is glass shards in my lip and nostrils, so I'll be ponying up the 3 bills+ for a full face.
Where did you get your Bell M2? Did you try it locally? Where.
I got my Simpson at Simpson World. When I told them I needed a helmet that wouldn't me hindering looking at right hand turns, they looked at me funny. ;-)
