Default 12'-0" works well with most. Check the lift specs and make sure o.h. door ....

openers and the like don't interfere.

Default My garage is just over ten feet and this is going in...

on Friday--Bend Pak SP-7X:
<img src="http://www.bendpak.com/binary_out.isg?binid=1872">

I won't be able to fully extend it or it will go through my ceiling...but it fit all the purposes we wanted.

Of course I'll take garage mod pics.

I have a high lift door - the door "hugs" the ceiling when it goes up...works great.

Default my old garage only had about 10ft 8" and I had the 4 poster and could store a car with another...

parked underneath it.

The new ceiling is 12ft and it fits better but slightly over 10ft is fine if you're not planning to store a car (which with that lift you wouldn't).

Default 9.5 ft for me, but I recommend higher

I wasn't able to go higher than 9.5 ft. I'm using a low profile 2 post lift that is 8ft high. I can't stand under the car, but plenty of room to sit on a roll around stool underneath. Also enough room to park a small car underneath. As others have mentioned, remember to have the garage door hug the ceiling. Otherwise when the garage door is opened it will hit the car when it is on the lift. Don't ask how I know this...

...so true though! The 4kq sits lower than the S...maybe I can fully extend it with her on there.
