For those who have switched to synthetic oil...

I searched the archives. Didn't find a concise answer.
What weight is best for the 2.7T?
Like 10W40 or 5W40?
Looking at Mobile 1 for now.
Dealer says heavier weight would be better. Other opinions?

I just put 10w-30 Mobil 1 in mine.
Dealer told me not to use 40 (or higher) weight oil. He said they were told not to run 40 weight oil in 5-valve engines due to excessive carbon build-up with heavier weight oils. Shouldn't really be an issue with synthetic oil though.
Owners manual specifies 5w-30 or 10w-30 for all service conditions.

"if you need to add oil between changes, Use any high quality petroleum- or synthetic-based oil with the correct specifications......
The oil which was first put into your engine has a viscosity grade of SAE 5W-40. You can use this oil over all temperaturs ranges for normal driving. If engine oil viscosity grade 5W-40 is not available, you can also use SAE 5W-30."

It might be an issue with synthetics.
I posted before about this, but two different Audi service departments told me that S4's in particular come with synthetic from the factory, although for some reason they won't "officially" tell you that... I wonder why? Probably because they chose to not pay for synthetic when you go in for your free service intervals.

1 of the ill effects of running the 15-50 is higher engins oil temperature (noticed this when I had my 1.8T). My engine was running 20-25 degrees cooler after I switched to a 10-30 weight The 15/50 is heavier hence your engine has to work harder to perform at the same level. You'll also probably see a 1-2MPG drop in mileage, not to mention a greater chance of retardation of the ignition timing due to higher engine temps.
