Thunk when accelerating in higher gears

I recently purchased a 2001 S4 and loving every minute with it. However, with only 2700 miles I started noticing a thunk when accelerating in higher gears (4th, 5th and 6), the higher the gear the more likely it would occur. For example if I shift from 4th to 5th, release the clutch and slowly accelerate everything is fine until I get on the gas, I get a thunk then the car goes. Once I get the thunk in a gear, I can decelerate and accelerate as hard and as many time without the thunk re-occurring in that gear. If I stay in the gear, step on the clutch and release it without shifting out of the gear the thunk will re-occur as soon as I get on the gas. Could it be my transmission going, or the clutch not fully engaging or is this normal? Do you think a DTS will solve the problem?

I did think about installing a snub mount or a DTS, but do you think that if it's the drivetrain slack, the thunk would occur in all gears and not just in the higher gears?
