Car hit 140k today, so I'm nostalgic. All stock, and getting a little long in the tooth. Need to have some dings fixed, maybe retouch some paint or even paint the hood and bumper.
I'd do it all over again... Any of you? What would you change?
I ordered my wagon and waited a long, long time. Close to a year, but I was in no real hurry. At least until Bambi took out the syncro wagon a few months prior to delivery anyway.
Pre-Order:
Got it almost exactly as I wanted (at the time). I lost sleep over exterior and interior color options.
Color:
Nogaro on Blk/Silver Sport was the goal.
- Trip to Ingolstadt left me with visions of a more 'unique' combination.
- was willing to pay the paint premium
- made no sense they (AoA or Ernst, dunno) wouldn't do it. Disappointed at the time, but
ended up with nog/blk/nog sport, even though it was a coin flip for red/blk/silver. I was concerned the blue would be 'just too much.' Which it IS and I wouldn't change a thing now.
- Had to have the RS2 blue exterior, so that made my choice easier.
Options:
Honestly, the car was going to stretch my budget. I needed to be low optioned from a cost perspective, but there were other reasons too.
Cold Weather
- Must have for Tahoe trips. Also nice for back massage after other activities: hockey, windsurfing, sechs
S/R Premium Pkg.
- Had enough experience to know the sunroof was nice, but A: I really didn't use it and B: if I kept the car as long as I planned, it would rattle and/or break, almost guaranteed.
- Wanted homelink, but did not (still don't) want the auto dim mirrors.
- Saved $, so no go.
- Great for wash/wax of roof too.
Bose
- I like music, so the choice NOT to get the better sound system was tougher, but I figured I could upgrade the speakers easily (fail, now that I want some)
Bottom line:
If I could go back, I'd buy the same exact car all over again. And if I could buy one NOW, I'd probably buy two. I'm a wuss, so up until now I'm still stock. The 2nd one would be more interesting...
After B5S4, what's next?
2010 S4 wagon with 6spd, I'd be tempted. 8-Ball says "not likely." But AoA said the same thing about wagons in 2000. They want to sell as many of the intro cars as possible. In a way this increases the chances for the wagon anyway, so please if you can, buy the 'T'FSI sedan, mkay?
A4 3.0TDI wagon with 6spd, I'm more than game. I'd probably rather this in fact, but might miss the S panache.
With the Q5, I'm concerned AoA will eventually take the same tack with the A4/S4 avant line that they have with the A6/Allroad avant line. There's now nothing to almost nothing available.
Q5 with 3.0TDI...status quo...
Anyway, sorry for the long one. But I figure some others feel the same way.
I'd really, really like a 2009 B5S4 Avant, in blue, for $40k. :-)
