Default timing belt DIY question...cam gear turned w/ cam lock installed

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/115128/fsn850545.jpg"></center><p>just wondering it this normal. Cam gear on pass. side does not spin but the driver's side tunrs even when the cam lock is installed.

it moved when I was pulling hte belt off but the cam lock is still installed.

its got me a little (a lot) freaked out.

Default Thats normal only if the bolt is loose. you want both cam pulleys to spin when you put on the new

belt, and set the tension on the belt, then tighten the bolts for the cam pullies.

Jhm's video they dont even use the cam lock or mess with the cam bolts

As richmonds4 said, that's normal only after you've removed the old belt and loosened the cam sprockets before putting on the old belt.

The sprockets are held in place by friction only, there are no keys. Make sure the surface between the cam and the cam sprocket is really clean and free of grease and oil.

Loosen both sprockets so they spin like in the video, put on the new belt, tighten the cam sprockets while pre-tensioning the belt, then unless there's some reason that's keeping the sprocket from being tightened correctly they should be okay.

Make sure you follow the torque specifications on the belt tensioning and sprocket tightening, and good luck!

Default thx all. I was stressing a bit when I saw it move. may be back w/ more ?'s.

I didn't have the pass side popped off fully so it wasn't spinning.

Fresh timing belt, rollers and tensioner, and water pump going on tomorrow. LW pulleys should be here Monday...hope to have it buttoned up Monday night or Tuesday AM.

Default That doesn't make it the rite way to do it , Your valve timeing could be off enough to lose power .

Not useing the cam bar can allow the cams to rotate , and
bend valves , if they hit a piston .
