Default timing marks

im trying to adjust everything to the marks. when i turn the underdrive pulley the way i people say to when i searched the forums the bigger holes on the crank shaft pulleys line up but i have a screw driver sitting in the cyl 1 hole an its all the way down....i thought it was suppose to pop all the way up if everything was lined up.... or do i have it backwards the piston is suppose to go all the way down?
