Tip or 6 speed?
#7
to a certain extent, but
mb 500sl automatic and bmw 325ci automatic, i prefer over the s4 automatic. would prefer a 6 speed in either tho. sl500 would be really sweet with a stick... and it's got torque! all the audi automatics i have driven (ok, ok, like... 4 total! ) have been sluggish. yes, yes, tip chip, whatever. maybe that helps but i wouldn't know.
knee = very well, way outta therapy which = sweet.
me = can drive stick, do almost everything except sprint or distance running (can jog) and then of course, tennis is still pretty much off limits (my choice) as well as similar sports. and it only took two surgeries and 9 months of rehab. yay!

Tip or 6 speed?
Found a good price on a clean '00 S4. Problem is it has Tip, but I've always been a manual kinda-guy. That being said, my daily commute is stop-and-stop-and-sorta-go in LA, and my left foot tends to go pretty numb during the 50 minutes + each direction.
Any manual-types been able to live with a Tip? Any issues with Tip v. 6 as far as reliability? TIA.

Jeez, it's not even THAT bad.
The tiptronic is much better than other auto's out there, in terms of transmission style. Secondly, it's as close to F1-style shifting as i can get (the buttons, not SMG, just the buttons), and i enjoy that feeling, thirdly, driving in traffic doesn't suck for me, as i can always throw the car back into D when it's heavy instead of popping the clutch *all the time* you 6spdrs do.
Having the 6spd i'm sure is a world of a difference, but the Tip S4 isn't THAT bad.
There's one thing that'll i'm gonna say right now. I find it annoying when people refer to tiptronic as a totally automatic car. It really isn't. I can shift the gears myself, (except 1-2-- most of the time) use downshifting to brake, etc. I might have to go through all the gears, but it still works.
I won't regret leasing the tip S, i'm gonna have my 6 second 0-60 fun for another 1 year. It's nothing big for me. After all...it's only a car.

Get the 6sp
I have the Tip and I wish I had gotten the stick. I just feel like it numbs the car down a bit. I actually tried to change my order midway, but they had already built the car by the time I got around to deciding that I wanted to change.
