Default Tip chip question:

OK, I keep hearing a lot of good thinks about tip chip, but I also heard another point of view (which I trust), which says that it's not necessary at all to put a tip chip if you running on chipped ECU and it even could harm my tranny if I do so.
I never drove chipped tip, so I'm just listening to the different opinions.
Now, what would you suggest? Should I try to add a GIAC tip chip, even if I'm running an APR ECU, or should I switch my ECU to GIAC also? Or should I chip my tip at all?

Thanks for any info!

Default I chipped my Tip

There really hasn't been enough time to see if any of the Tip trannys have failed due to chipping. So it's still kind of a gray area. All I can tell you is that the Tip chip is great. I love it and I can't imagine going back to stock. You will need every little edge you can get.

As with both chips, if you are scared of voiding your warranty or breaking something, don't do it.

So, do you think that tip chip works best with GIAC ECU, or it doesn't really matter? TNKZ!

Default I've heard of people

mixing and matching their ECUs and Tip Boxes. They are two seperate units. They shouldn't bother each other.

This is just my experience, not solid scientific $hit.

I have a MTM ECU chip in my tip , Hoppen Motorsport tells me they take into consideration the tip tranny and they see no use for the tip chip therefore they do not sell one.

Default If you chip the Tip...

...you will like it. A lot.

I've driven a car with GIAC engine chip, or with both engine chip and Tip ('race' version) chip and there is a huge difference.

Just adding the engine chip is great, but you can kinda tell it's not quite right. Adding the Tip chip really changes that and makes the mod complete IMO.

In my mind, you have to do both chips.

Default I'm not following that statement?

ECU and Tip chip are different animals. I wonder if GIAC is the only one to take the time and can understand what the Tip is doing? The Giac Tip chip does speed up the time between shifts and it is the only one to do so. A ecu chip will not do this. I do not understand MTM hoppens position. I have heard that many tuners wont go there because its very complicated.
