Default Tiptronic Question

I have a tiptronic, never drove a manual (stick) before and had no 6-spd choice when I bought the tip. I noticed that there are two up and down buttons on the steering wheel and the manual says it is for tiptronic drive. Can anyone explain this and tell me how this is different from autmoatic and how I can use it? Thanks

Default steering wheel buttons are for maual shifting...........

you slide the shifter to the right when it's ni the "D" position and that puts you into tipronic mod.
when in this mode, the car shifts from 1st to second, after that you have controll over when to shift the transmission up or down - it tries to simulate the sporting nature of driving a manual without the complexity of actually driving a manual.
this mode will allow you to shift manually so that you can hold a gear longer or be in a gear you want to be in before a turn or to downshift to slowdown faster.

also, keep in mind that if you slow down and have the car in tip moode, it WILL shift down sequentially for you - you may choose to do it yourself, but you dont have to.

the main thing with tip is that you controll most of the up shifting and to mist degree the downshifting or the tranny.

Nothing wrong is going to happen, but your revs will keep going up until you redline.

Default many runs by AW'ers (ie. NASA & others) have shown that on 1/4 mile straights,

you'll actually get faster tiems leaving it "D".
tip mode is actually more usefull in sprited drivng through traffic, on twisty roads and on racetracks.

and also , you have a REv. limiter, so you wont damage / overev. the engine.
