225=225mm tire width; 45=height of sidewall, 45% of 225mm; 17=17" rim diameter

Default It took me a while to figure this out when I first got my car, I didn't know about AW back then...

225 = the size of the tire in MM. Basically if you take a tire and stand it like a tire that's mounted on a car, put your palms on each side of it, and that's 225 MM in width.

45 = the MM's from the edge of the rim to the edge of the tire. That's usually a number in the 30's-40's for a low profile tire...then there ultra low profile which are ridiculously smaller and unncessary

not sure w/the R means, probably the tire rating. and the 17 means the rim size that will fit on the tire. That means you've got 17" rims, the stock rims .

Hope this helps, and i hope i'm right hehe

No, the '45' is not in mm - it is a percentage of the width. 45% of 225...
