any weld requires clean prepped surface...for a truly good weld. but with titanium you have to have total argon coverage. for best results this requires a tank. titanium is actually very finicky. the bead looks the same but the stuff needed to be able to do it is where the difficulty comes in.
(edit: just like the info you posted in the link. how do you figure thats "not as hard as you think" thats a bitch for just an exhaust imo.)

But I do agree. The most important decision is the first one -- starting with the right car. That will ultimately be the limiting factor no matter what you do.
However, Funk has a point. Losing weight for fat girl still has its benefits even if she will never win a Miss. America contest. :-p

I see how the rest of the car turns out.
But if it turns out the way I'm thinking it will, then I will get serious about putting the car on a diet. :-)
Along the way, if I were to have any custom parts made then I would probably look in to using titanium for them.
