I don't know the differences but I got the impression from some earlier posts that newer trannies might be more troublesome than 2000 models. But that's not a scientific survey by any measure, so maybe it's a false impression?!

...despite two nights at drag strip. Well, there has been one issue -- occasionally it won't go into first unless I almost force it. Worked fine at dealer, tho, so they couldn't fix cuz it wasn't broke for them. Audi 6 spds ARE a frequent source of complaint on these posts, so do be careful; they are costly to replace ($11K new) so maybe ask the Audi dealer that has serviced this car about its service history. Don't know if they'll tell you but can't hurt to try. RE your warranty -- is it factory or other? How soon will 3 years expire, and what miles are on the car now?

...unless at least six to nine months remained on warranty, especially since car was leased (i.e. the leasing driver maybe didn't give a **** about the long-term condition of that car since he knew he wouldn't own it or have to sell it, so he may have run it hard -- and doing that for 32K mi could set you up for trouble if you're not protected by warranty)

And what was that date? If date put in service was 00, that's better than 99. Also, you didn't mention price. My black/black leather '00 was 32.5; others have said that seemed about right at that time (November).

(near Detroit) had 29K mi & was privately priced at 30K last November. Guess I'm saying that low 30s seems a little high now, 5 months later, for an 00 S4 with 32K mi. I'd try to get price down some, and if they won't budge, decide for yourself whether excellent warranty coverage makes it worth the price.
