Default turbo durabililty in 2001.5 S4?

How many km's (just ballpark)can one expect out of the turbos assuming reasonable sport driving (no racing) and good maintenance? After a hard drive should you let the engine idle for a while before you shut it off or is this outdated now? I also understand that there were changes to the turbos in the 10/00 builds and newer which should improve reliability, is this correct? Thanks in advance

Default I would expect that..

your turbos would last 100,000 miles if your car were left totally stock.

Default Yes, warm up and cool down periods are important

You should start driving immediately after starting the ignition, and drive sedately until the car has warmed up. Then have fun, and when you're done, let the engine cool down for up to two minutes depending upon how hard you've driven and how much you've used the turbos.

Most of the wear (60-80%) on an engine occurs during the warm up period. And gone are the days of simpler cars that could be left idling for 10 minutes in the morning. Most people don't realize the importance of proper warm up, or do it wrong. This is why cars that are used for short in-city trips suffer problems later in life, and why "hwy miles" is a useful phrase to put in a classifieds ad. Our S4s also have the turbos, which makes cool down extremely important for our engines. Leaving hot oil in a shut down S4 engine is not good.

Bottom line, take care of your car and she'll take care of you - and those biturbos should keep serenading you with that sweet siren song for a lot of miles.
