Default Turbo failure question...

What has been everyone's experience with turbo failures? When they go out do they both go out? Just wondering becuase I think that ONE of mine is not working properly, and I just wanted to know if that is "normal".....

thanks.

Default it's normal

If one goes, doesn't mean the other will.

Default Turbos tend to go individually but they must be replaced in pairs.

There is no rhyme or reason to the sounds or symptoms. I went through 2 sets of turbos. First time around they made no sound, no smoke, no codes, no CEL, no boost. Second time around, horrible sounds, smoke to rival any james bond car ever, codes galour, CEL all over the place (the dash, the seats, the ashtray) 2psi - 3psi of boost at WOT.

Do not drive on one faulty turbo.

Default I'm taking it in next week....

but what's interesting is that it still works when it wants to....when i punch it in second, the car goes pretty good, but then the second turbo decideds to kick in and thats when i know that there's something wrong....it sucks ***.

Default the second turbo is always kicking in. The S4 is a bi-turbo set up.

3 cylinders feeding each turbo. They spin in tandum. A sequential set up is when one turbo spools first then the second under heavier compression.

The problem then is not with your turbos, most likely. More like an intake leak somewhere, or perhaps a boost spike.
