turbo lag with MTM stage III with downpipes?
I let a new aquaintence drive my stage III S4 while I followed behind in a stock S4 both are early model 2000 cars. After the drive I thought he would have his mouth open drooling over the power, but instead he complained of turbo lag. Now is he full of it or is there somthing that could cause turbo lag that I'm not aware of. My car has milltek downpipes and you can here those turbos spool up quicker, I sware. I ran the vag.com after the drive and a couple of misfire codes popped up along with a low fuel code, which was probably thrown that same morning just before I filled up with gas.

StageIII or Stage II+ ? Do you have upgraded turbos?
There are two schools of thoughts on stages
Stage I = chip
Stage II = Chip&cat-back
Stage II+ = Chip&cat-back&DPs
Stage III = StageII+ and turboupgrade (and programing)
And some believe III is like II+ (from above)
To answer your question, I'd say that if you are II+...you won't have any more turbo lag than stock - it should be less (just with stage II)
But it all dependds on your programming (chip)

Stage III
Ummm... who gives a sh*t about the schools of thought... MTM Stage 3 is pretty specific... it is downpipes, hoses, new FPR, spark plugs, and the stock turbos.
Why should it matter what APR calls a "downpipe" upgrade or what anyone calls it? If MTM called it "MTM Stage 7" that would be okay too -- it's perfectly clear what it is if you go to an MTM dealer and look at what the kit is.
IMO "Stage II+" is kinda stupid actually -- just give the incremental kits a higher number, damn the A4 precedent.
