Ok my passenger side turbo blew out on my stock s4 after 70k miles. I have been reading that this is usually like a 5-6k dollar repair and was wondering why this is. If I can buy some stock s4 k03 turbos w/ intercoolers for like 100 bucks. What makes the repair cost so much? I know labor is a factor in this. but i wanna know how much.

I priced everything about a month ago just because I was curious. You can figuire around $1600 for brand new K03's give or take and around $1500 labor from a dealership (that's what I was quoted form my dealer). Imo you would be better to go with K04's/or the hyprids from Imolivirus. If my turbos go out, I'm just going to ket new K03's and pull the engine mystelf and go from there. Just my .02, Dave

(which stan mentioned must be done to access the turbos)
And if the IC's need to be swapped, I would plan on adding a few hours to clean out the intake plumbing of oil/coolant/metal shavings.

Lowest install cost I've heard of was $2000. Turbos have sold used, at around $350 for K03's, and K04's don't typically sell used, only new or rebuilt. Buehn engineering is now selling rebuilts, but expect a bit of a wait. New K04 kits sell for around $2500-2550 depending on supply. So, for a basic K04 install, you'd be expecting a minumum of $4500. Beyond that, you'll need, oil, filter, coolant, etc, so expect $5000+, that way you won't be suprised.
Also, when the engine's out, and other things are noticed (oil leaks, damaged/worn/broken parts), it's much easier to replace things during this time. If you anticipate this, it'll save you much $$$ in the long run. It's also a good time to do other maintenance, such as a clutch or timing belt. That's probably where you're seeing over $6000 for the repair, when people add the extras.
