Two new LM-22's to go with two older ones, front or back?
So do I put the new tires on the front or back of the car. I am mixing in two new tires with two older LM-22's from last season. The reason being is that one of the four older tires has uneven wear and would not last a season, so I junked it. The two older tires I am using are in pretty good shape with quite a bit of tread left. My only question is whether to put the new tires on the front or rear of the car. I was leaning toward putting them on the front as I wear those tires out quicker so they would wear out faster to match the older tires. Thoughts???

I just went through a bunch of info on this last week. The word directly from Tire Rack and AoA is -
don not put tires of different tread wear if there is more than 4/32" of difference. 2/32" is preferred.
Long story short - I had 4 Pirelli 210's at 7/32". Belle Tire busted one taking it off a rim.
At the end of the day, they are replacing 2 new tires of my choice and I am buying the other 2 at their cost.
Getting Dunlop M2's for $125 ea.
That is all.
Maybe someone can explain the problem with the differential and Quattro having tires of significantly different tread depth - I can't.

Just upped the order to four new shoes
I decided to start fresh and mix and match from the other four lm-22's once the new ones wear down. I shouldn't have to buy snow tires now till 2005.

To answer the original question...new tires in the back.
Worn tires in the back means the car will be prone to oversteer at some point (when the tires wear down enough). That may be fine (and desirable) when you're playing on local streets, but when you're on the highway dodging an idiot in an Audi who doesn't know that S03's aren't acceptable for winter use, that oversteer won't be a pleasant surprise.
