Uh oh..6 Speed tranny problems...need input
I thought I was safe from any transmission problems once I got rid of my VW (The O2AJ transmission was notorious for the 2nd gear grind)..as of yesterday though, 2nd gear has become a grind fest.
I have to SLAM the car into 2nd gear to keep it from grinding...its almost as if it doesn't go into 2nd unless forced. Even going from 2nd to 1st at a stand still is hard and very rough, and often gets hung up in the neutral area. Has anyone else experienced a problem with this?
My Audi dealer won't have a loaner car available till Monday so I will take it in then..just looking for input. Something is definitly wrong, just trying to get some input. Thanks!

http://www.gtivr6.com</a

Looks like you blew your second gear synchro.
Audi will REPAIR the transmission, under warranty, not replace it. I had this problem. Mine usually only happened shifting under high load (4k+ RPM)

I have heard of problems with early 6 speed. the slider between first and second gets stuck and you lose both gears. This happened to one of my customers and Audi told us to replace the transmission, not to rebuild it. I guess the replacments don't have this problem. I don't know if this is the problem with yours or not, but if it is your dealer will be told by Audi to replace the transmission. If they don't ask them about it and mention what I just said. Now remember I work in sales not service so there might have been circumstances that I don't know about that affected Audis descision on my customer, so don't take what I say as gospel. (Don't want my service manager on my case either) But Audi has been fairly generous in taking care of known problems.

Innovator made a post regarding this...
The parts that Audi was shipping were uprated parts, and that Audi was simply requesting the trans to be rebuilt with these parts.
He also stated that they will only warranty one rebuild, and that recurring problems would be non warranty work.

Question for those that have seen this
Is a stuck FIRST gear from a standing start the same problem? I have had more and more problems getting into first gear; I often have to shift into second and then really ram it back into first to get it going.
