Put the car back in neutral, bring up the clutch pedal, then push the clutch in again and try to engage first. Should slip in easy - clears the synchro or something...

Tonight I was taking the car to the dealer to leave it there so I wouldn't have to deal with traffic...all of a sudden I could not get into 1st or 2nd gear for the life of me. I tried every possible way but it just wasn't happening. I tried limping the car home in 3rd gear but the clutch would just not catch at all. Luckily I wasn't too far from home so I turned around and drove it the 1/2 mile back home. The clutch was burning so bad that after I opened the hood, smoke billowed out for a good 10 minutes. The car now smells like burnt clutch something fierce. I had a flatbed towtruck take the car to the dealer. I'll go back over there in the morning to talk to them and get a loaner. *Sigh* I should have just kept the GTI...nothing but bad luck with this car..first the financing and now this.

admittedly sporadic, but definitely there. Sometimes, no amount of reclucting works - have to start in 2nd, or roll forward/backward a little.
It went in to dealer for service last week but they "could not duplicate" along with most of the other troubles I reported.
grr... the magic is fading
