Is anyone having problems getting transmissions replaced. I think I need a new one. Only 12,500 miles with no mods, and I know how to drive a manual transmission.

I had a problem with my second gear, but it is now okay. I have basically the same car as you and had a slight problem with engaging and disengaging second gear.
The problem is now okay, but not gone.
Call AoA to report this so that they could possible have a recall on this.

Went to downshift to third going into a toll plaza at 55-60 moh. Clutch all the way down and the gears grind. Hmmm! So I coast into the toll pay my money and take off. First is fine. Second tough to get into. Almost spongy feeling. The shifting has always been notchy and positive feeling. This felt mushy. Hmmm...go to third...ugh! It was really tough to get out of 2nd. 3rd through 6th fine. Tried double clutching made it easier to get into 2 but not out. Car goes in tomorrow, but I'm out of the country for a week starting Friday, so I hope they just take care of it while I'm gone. Fingers crosssed!

The vibration dampener between the transmission and the engine is a large steel shaft. The steel shaft is held on by a small aluminium fastener. Upon breaking the transmission slips back a few inches so some of the gears may not engage correctly. My reverse was peculiarly high and first third and fifth was about an inch below normal. Upon replacement Audi let me know that they have a different part to replace the aluminium fastener. It is supposedly now a heavy duty steel fastener. So if they have a new part due to numerous failures, why no recall?
This is all from what I remember from my conversation with the tech.
Does this sound familiar?

I have to bring her in soon.
I have also noticed that getting into third gear from sixth can be a pain. sometimes it grinds when one shift too quickly.
Don't know if it is the tranny or just the shifter or the syncros. What ever the case, the gears is a little less aggressive that I would have like on a sports sedan.

Be weary, be veeery weary.
Good luck, sucks to have a slow tranny, sucks so much worse when they break like ours here and there, I wonder when will be my time?
