As for replacing parts of the S4 on a schedule, I wonder if I made a mistake not just going in and replacing all control links, tie-rods, wheel bearings and CV-joints all at once? But my experience with many other cars is that these parts almot never fail. Still, maybe in this case it has been false economy.

Also, I would expect the turbos to fail as well. 150K is lot for any turbo. (I assume it has the original KO3s) Replace them with K04s for more reliability.
Good luck with that Audi, and if you need the reliability. Get a new car, Audi, BMW, or a 996/997 would be great.

The previous owner had told me that the turbos had never been replaced and from what I can see I believe that to be true. So 141,000 miles on each of them. No symptoms. So far they seem to be going great. In a way, the fact that they have lasted this long tells me that they are probably pretty good and therefore I am not going to mess with them. Eventually I intend to replace the entire engine with one out of an RS4. Hopefully they will last until then.
I am beginning to think you are right about the suspension. It would have been better to have replaced everything at once. I did not expect *everything* to go after a certain mileage. But that is how it is turning out. I guess a lot of it has to do with the type of use of the car. Maybe a grandma car can be left and would continue to be more reliable. Not this one it seems.
Fortunately I do have other cars that I can use if I must. My net cost when I bought it was a little over US$12K so a lot can go wrong before I am really suffering financially.
