Default Update: my bone stock '01 S4 tiptronic is getting a new tranny at only 7k miles.

i'm the guy who posted a month or two ago on this. thought i was experiencing some form of front wheel spin or something upon moderate to hard launches from a dead stop. problem was present with the car from day one, just not nearly as bad as now. i just never understood exaclty where the slipping was occurring.

anyhow, finally (after 3week wait) got it back into the dealer monday this week. dealer is replacing the transmission. should have the car back sometime next week.

this car has never been AX'd or tracked and has never had the engine or the tranny chip'd. i'm a textbook case for why you may *NOT* want to chip you car under warranty

unfortunately, no useful details on this problem from dealer. they either truly don't know what went wrong inside the tranny - or won't say. no clue if i'm a one-shot bad-luck case or if audi knows things they aren't talking about.

i can only guess this is a simple case of "infant-mortality" where i just got unlucky and audi built my S4 with a defective tiptronic from their supplier (ZF?).

will be interesting to [maybe] finally be able to truly floor it from a red light and not have the tach immediately swing to redline while the car barely moves with the tranny slipping & chattering. should be like having a new car all over again

Default

I'm guessing here, but won't a new tranny need its own break-in period?

Default i read your post a few weeks ago...sounds like you just got a defect

quality control in germany is not what it should be. Of course you don't know where the problem came from. One has to realize that their are MANY MANY tiers of suppliers. Fortunately there are quality systems that are suppossed to be employed all the way down the tiers...who screwed up? hard to say.

Default dunno. that's one of my questions to dealer when i pick the car up.

i'd think it would be less of an issue for an auto tranny than for an engine, but, regardless, i wouldn't feel right "flooring" it right away. will probably granny it a little for a few hundred miles.
