Default Update on my cracked tubular manifold saga....

So If anyone remebers, my passenger side awe tubular manifold cracked last weekend. I decided it was probably best to go back to stock exhaust manifolds. I ordered a set of manifolds from Shokan. parts came next day. great. This past weedkend, I pulled the engine, got it out in 9 hours, no problems. I replaced the passenger side manifold with stock, bolt everything back up, no problems. I move over to the driver side, get the tubi mani off, replace with stock, no problem. Go to bolt the turbo up to the manifold and the holes wont line up for the turbo to mani bolts. Problem! I noticed the compressor boost line comming out the compressor housing has a lot of tension on it and the comproessor housing is hitting the cylinder head. So ok, i think all i have to do is reclock the comproessor housing, so i do that, get the turbo to mani bolt holes to line up, bolt in but still the booct pressure line in the comp housing has too much tension on it but i made it fit. So now i think im in the clear. I go to bolt up the down pipe to the turbo and the flange on the down pipe does not mate up with the turbo and the downpipe is hitting the trans mount arm and the downpipe support bracket is totatly out of line as well. So now i really pissed and i give up.

I just called awe tuning and spoke to john. he said there was an early batch of A6's with the 2.7t motor that had different manifolds and that i probably got one of those manifolds. He said there is now way to differentiate between the 2 types either by part number of vin year.

Anyone know if this could be true? Otherwise ihave to hack up the downpipe and re-weld the flange which i should not have to do this stuff should just bolt right up.

Default If it were me I would see if Shokan could shoot you another mani. If you start...

having to modify other things that could just lead to one problem after another.

Default If they cracked once, they'll crack again. Word is, tubi mani's crack.

thats just the nature of the product. And i dont want to do this again. Next time i pull the motor its getting an entirly new turbo kit and hopefully thats not to soon.

Default Where are you located? I have a set from my S4 I'd be willing to part with for basically the cost of

shipping unless you are local. I have no use for them.
