I called the CHP yesterday morning, and spoke with one of the officers that was familiar with the crash.
I asked him if I could see the car and get a couple of personal belongings out of the car. Unfortunately, I am not able to do so as the car is officially sealed until the investigation is over. And according to CHP, the investigation is a criminal one.
I have also received some conflicting stories as well. Neither of them are confirmed, and so must be taken as so. However, it seems that the intial account told to me by the service manager may be untrue. I was told that there was a slippery substance in the road and the technician lost control of my car, hitting another person. No details were given, and my intuition fed me hints of the service manager being less then forthcoming with all the details.
After speaking with the CHP, though still pending completed investigation, looks like the accident occured at over 100 mph. There was another party that was hit; a woman and 2 passengers who were critically injured, and the woman was thought to have been deceased, but luckily she was NOT.
It also seems that the car from what I'm told has had it's entire roof collapsed, and from the rear to the forward been significantly damaged.
Furthermore, some information has also filtered in as to how my car came to be in the location of the accident in the first place. The technician was off route; that is to say that he was not driving on the route that they are supposed to be. Even though the dealership is right off the freeway, he was far enough to have been deviated from the normal routes taken by other technicians.
Also, it seems that he was returning from running a personal errand.
Furthermore, this is the SECOND time one of the technicians at this dealership (not the same one) has been involved in an accident with one of the customer's car. Another older Audi was involved a few months ago causing $8000 in damage. She was given a new car. Amazingly, the technician still works at the dealership. I should say the circumstances involving this accident was that traffic was stopped and the tech was not paying attention, and needless to say rear-ended another car (on the freeway).
Now I don't have to tell you that all these pieces of information over the period of 48 hours has left me speechless. I'm angered to say the least, at the technician, for running a personal errand with my car, and for going well over the speed limit, and to put other lives at jeopardy, but also at the dealership for attempting not to be forward with me, and to let this sort of thing be of accepted practice.
I'm not giving out publicly the name of the dealership yet, as there is usually a lynch mob mentality attached to this forum and others. Granted, I should be furious at this, but there is no reason for others to ACT on my behalf. The information is NOT CONFIRMED, and time will sort out the truths and untruths.Furthermore, there can be more legal ramifications.
All I ask is to refrain from what you would normally do for now. The dealer will get what is coming to them, and this I promise you.
I just wanted to keep the forum updated. One thing you may want to do is start to keep a mental note of the mileage when you drop the car off for service, and ask them not to road test, wash, move it beyond their service lot, your car.
Thanks.
Sorry no pictures yet as I can't have access to the car until the investigation has been completed.<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=3559"><img src="http://www.jyoteen.com/audiworldsig/rips4.gif" border="0"></a>

people REALLY should be wary....
i agree that everyone should back off until you're done with the dealership...but when you are, let us know ;-)

jyoteen,
the details and descriptions you give above are downright horrifying but not beyond the sort of stuff i envision when i leave my baby at the dealership.
more importantly, the way you're dealing with this situation is truly above-and-beyond; we all have something to learn from your poise and demeanor. in the end, i think your approach will reward you handsomely (likely with a new car, and perhaps with some spare cash if there are criminal ramifications).
as far as mileage goes, my dealer (clair) asks you for the mileage on the car when you drop it off. i always give it to them precisely and so far have not had any evidence that they've put extra miles on it.
best of luck and keep us updated...<p>--

Sorry to hear about you loss. I purchased mine in January 2000 and love looking at people as the eye catching color zips by them.....
I hope the dealer has started locating a new one for you...Imola is hard to come by at least in the southern states (TN & GA) and don't settle for anyother color.
Intersted in hearing more about your tire problem. Please E-mail me.

in the first place. I understand they get to take a nice sports car (some heavily modded) out for a short run, but this IS someone elses property! Have some respect for it at least. And the laws on public roadways. I'm not into flaming them either. They Will get there day in court. I feel bad for the innocent wictims in all of this too. Good luck Joyteen, thanks for the cleaning tips!

Hi there.
Wow! So could this be the Imola S4 I saw in the middle of some LA freeway blocking all the traffic cuz it had an accident? Weird! My condolences.
I work at one of the local TV stations... and our chopper was hovering above a freeway ax with a Yellow S4 involved...it was either Thurs or Fri afternoon, I can't remember. I was looking at the monitor saying "aahhh some dumbo was speeding in his S4 and just lost it! How sad!" The car was in the middle of all the lanes, practically turned around facing oncoming traffic (which was stopped at this point, as CHP was on the scene) The body didn't look terribly damaged from the air viewpoint, but there was a trail of fluid leaking out. Looks like it had definitely spun and there was another car involved, I can't remember what kind, but it was also out in the middle of traffic. Everyone, like 5 lanes of traffic, was backed up as far as I could see behind the accident.
To hear it was a tech out driving that caused this makes me SICK. By the looks of the scene, somebody did something REALLY stupid.
If it's yours, I'm really sorry for you. I know KCAL (not my station) did report the story during their afternoon news, since it really tied up traffic.
Best of luck with all of this.<p>JFrench528
