Default Used the 24mm nut on the front of the Crankshaft to counterhold the

shaft while removing the Flywheel bolts. Pretty dumb thing in hindsight so now I want to double check that it didn't get loosened. Is the Crank Pin sufficient to lock & hold the Crank for that kind of loading? If it is, then I assume I'm OK to use the pin when reinstalling the Flywheel bolts right?
Thanks,
Tony

Default The crank pin is sufficient to hold for torquing the crank bolt or the flywheel bolts.

The crank bolt is torqued to a higher spec than the flywheel bolts, so counterholding it there for torquing the flywheel bolts isn't a problem.

Default

Crank pin is fine for both.

Default Thanks both. Yes, 200Nm vs 50Nm (?) so it should be fine but I

was being **** and allowing for the additional moment-arm when wailing (sp?) on the off-centered Flywheel bolts. Makes up a little of the difference... "It's just so dam hard when it's your own car your working on :-)"
How do I even measure 200Nm anyway? My biggest T-Wrench goes to ~150Nm.
Thanks again.

Default "wailing (sp?) on the off-centered Flywheel bolts"???

The flywheel only mounts in one orientation (the bolts pattern is not uniform). If the bolts are off-center, then the flywheel is not in the proper orientation.

Default I think he meant that the flywheel bolts are off-axis of the crankshaft and create additional torque

on the crankshaft when tightening.

Default Sorry, poor description, I need to explain myself. I was doing a

mental check on how much Torque I applied to the Crank bolt through the undoing the F-Wheel bolts. Assuming they were tightened at 50Nm then you have to account for the fact they are "displaced" from the axis of the crank by 30-40mm which until they budge, adds to the moment arm and hence the torque applied to the crank nut. Still well under 200 though.
