A 'useful' temp gauge for cooldown? (long)

There's a fair bit of disparity (and confusion) about how long to idle to cool things down before turning the engine off. I usually give it 90 seconds or so if the turbos were used in the previous 3 minutes. After spirited driving, I give it 5 minutes at least.
The thing is, NONE of the dash gauges give you any clue as to what the real temperature of the turbos is. I got to thinking about this yesterday and realized it would be pretty neat to have a reading of the temperature of the oil and/or coolant temperature coming OUT of the turbos.
I think it would be really simple to strap a thermisistor or heat probe onto the stainless steel oil output line. Getting the temperature information to the dashboard is a different matter, but I suspect you could quite easily wire it up to a small display on the dash somewhere. Another possibility is to somehow integrate the sensor into the on-board systems. I recall a half-dozen or more temp sensors for the engine systems and climate control. Though 'stealing' one of these inputs could cause problems and fiddling with the stereo to 'read' the coded value is a bit impractical.
Going a step further, I'm sure the parts exist out there to have a little temp display on the dash with an LED that only goes green once the turbos have cooled to a desired temperature. This is kind of like turbo timers, but timers don't take into account the initial temperature of the component(s) you want to protect.
I can't believe that what I'm describing hasn't been mentioned it before. Maybe it has?
Maybe I should just shut up and patent this thing right away... :-)<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=5325">
