Default vag-com causes internal fault in airbag module

My airbag light has been on for awhile now. Just last week I was on vag-com's website looking around and came across a bulletin. It says checking for airbag fault codes on certain (other) models may cause this permanent fault of "internal memory fault." If vag-com causes the same fault on other cars.. maybe it's costing me several hundred for a new/used airbag controller.

This is pure speculation on my part but I thought I'd share. The airbag controllers aren't cheap. Anyone know of a cheap source? I keep putting off spending the money but it is a safety issue.. thanks<ul><li><a href="http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/vw_issues.html">http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/vw_issues.html</a></li></ul>

Default

Yep, that's why the VAG-COM default setting is to not scan the airbag controller.

Default All I'm saying is let it be known: scanning it can be expensive

I'm not even sure I scanned it to begin with. I think I clicked the function that scans everything. I'm not sure that includes the airbag. Yea, somehow I must've screwed up. Either way, I'm just trying to help save the next person a few dollars

Default I had to use it to figure out what resistor I needed for aftermarket seats. No problems here.

I cleared the codes several times too.

Default I've scanned my airbag stuff at least 100 times and never had a problem.

There's a clip and ground component in some airbags that goes bad after a time, sometimes. Mike from Ingolstadt West has fixed them on many cars. I would say that your VAG work and your airbag failure are coincidence.
