Default VAG-Com problem

I just talked to a fellow AW'er who is trying to log his car. He has everything plugged in fine and he has logged a few times before. However, this time it wont read anything saying it isn't plugged in. He tried rebooting several times and turning the car on/off. He did the test that said everything was okay, but it won't work. Anyone ever encounter this? What is going on?

Yeah, his cable crapped out, that's exactly what mine did.

Default Guess what?

He just called and said after rebooting for a 5th time and unplugging/replugging the USB connector, it worked. WTF? I told him to call ross tech on monday.

Oh, I don't have a USB cable, sounds like he has a software/OS issue.

Default Old school ISO-COM. Probably about 2 years old. At first I thought my OBD II port died, because

everything worked on the laptop. But I borrowed a friends computer and cable and the port is fine. I didn't check to see if there was an issue with the computer (by switching cables), but according to VAG-COM the cable is there and the port is fine. Plus, there's not too much that can go wrong with a serial port.

One of the pins on the laptop I use came loose and eventually fell out. Still works perfectly with 8

Default Ah, this might be different, VAG-COM can see the cable and tells me everything is fine, but I just

can't connect to any of the control modules.

Default Wait wait wait, before throwing out the cable, disable all palm pilot software on your computer

I had the same problem and that solved it. Good luck.
