It happeneded to me once.
I just took the wheel off and started to tighten all the bolts that were loosened to install the suspension. When I got to the top bolt it wasn't as tight as the others. =)

Yes ... You can fix this without a spring compressor.
Easier to have 2 people doing the job.
Removing the whole assembly is quite easy.
1. Remove the bottom bolt connecting the shock to the lower suspension.
2. Remove the connection of the suspension nearest the fender edge.
3. Remove the 4 screws holding the whole housing holding the shock in the car.
4. Take the shock out including the whole housing.
5. Take note/mark where the lower perch is on the threads as you will want to set it to the same height later.
6. loosen/lower the spring so that the spring is no longer on load.
7. remove the nut and bold holding the top of the coilover in the housing.
8. Inspect the suspension and do what is necessary to fix it. Use locktite if the upper mount has separated from the shaft.
9. Reinstall suspension into the housing paying close attention that the spring sits on the rubber perches properly.
10. tension the spring to the noted height by spinning up the coilovers.
11. reinstall the whole assembly in the car.
12. When tightening the link on the top near the edge of the fender... use a jack to put it under load first before you tighten it.
13. tighten all the bolts nice and snug and tight.
And you should be done and good to go. Good luck
